Strolling the threads and saw this one at zero replies..
1 and 4 - Research composition, a book by Bryan Peterson called 'Learning to see creatively' is a very good resource.
2 - depends on the mood of the photograph, snooted hard light or lots of creamy soft light? Either can be achieved without lots of expensive strobes, after all, still life doesn't complain about hot light being 'hot'.
3. This forum

Go to the newsstand and pick up a magazine. Study product photography, imitate the masters while you work on your own style.
