Here is a portrait of my daughter at the park. I had to take this quick so she wouldn't fall off the rock she was sitting on. (Actually, I had someone hold her and i just cloned out their hand). I would like any input on what I could do better. This was shot w/ my 20D and 18-55mm kit lens. It was taken at 41mm w/ a 1/200s shutter at f/10 and ISO 100.

photo is nice. maybe the other way was the best way to shoot this? i mean standing with your back to the iron fence and the parking lot. You say you were at the park? or the parking lot? lol. If it was a kids playground it would be nostalgic (in 20 years) to see the swingsets in the background (blurred to keep your interest on your daughter) but still, i would rather see her location better as she seem to be in a busy place next to a parking lot rather than a fun place like the park. but really well shot otherwise.

Nice picture !
A little bit of a fill flash would definitely help to bring out those shaded areas on her face (or you can try to use the "Shadows / Highlights" tool in Photoshop CS, but it's quite limited). Try also to use lower f-numbers when making portraits, they will help you to blur the background more.

Thanks for the input! Next time I'm out, I'll give it a try. This park didn't have swingsets or anything. It was just a grassy area next to a small river. The parking you see in the background was actually across the river. I'll try it again next weekend. Thanks!
