Heya,
I'm lookin to buy a new digicam to replace my Powershot S230 from years ago. Actually the S230 is still doing pretty well, but I'm looking for more megapixels (5 maybe?) and better movie capabilities. I guess in terms of movies, the only big improvement over my current camera would be the 640x480 resolution.
About the movies, I read the Powershot SD400 has unlimited movie capturing limited by your storage capacity. I also read somewhere though that individual clips are limited to 3 minutes? Which is true? I'm looking for a camera that can basically function as a mini-camcorder.
Thanks
Raj

Hi Fat*
I have never user any of the models you mentioned, however I quicklyu checked the specs of SD400 for you. It records movies at 640 x 480, 30 frames/second, with sound, until memory card is full
If you are ready to take some advice than I would say - keep digital camera & camcorder separate. Use dedicated equipment. I have a camcorder which takes digital images also, but useless. I have a camera which takes unlimited video with sound but when I transfer video to record dvd for watching on TV, I found it no good. So I use dedicated equipment for both requirements.
Just my 2 cents.

Do you mean with sound? I have the SD300 and it does unlimited video with sound until the card is full and it was the first thing I tested with a full charge and it worked.

awesome. some of the sites say unlimited video with sound, some of the sites (sometimes the same ones) say "but individual clips are limited to 3 minutes".... so i wasn't sure which. but if it takes unlimited video depending on the card, that's great.
as for the still images, how do those pictures turn out? is the red-eye reduction done well? my s230 leaves a lot of redness sometimes.

The SDXXX series of Powershot cameras is fast devoloping a notorious reputation for having thin, flimsy LCD screens that break if you look at them wrong. I don't know about the SD400/SD500, but the SD200/SD300 screens are being reported broken quite often under slightly less than "TLC" handling. Canon will typically not cover this under warranty either.
Just something to consider....

i like the videos that my little PS makes there are perfect for the kids growing up and easy to take the camera fits in my pocket..no worries there.

Anyone know if the SD400 supports remote capture?
