I was really excited about the SX10 IS, but then I found out that the maximum aperture was F5.7. What gives? Why would Canon slow down the lens from the S2/S3/S5?
I enjoy macro photography a lot, so I was hoping that the SX10 would have an F11, or at least retain it's ability to shoot at F8.
Can someone explain to me why Canon would limit the SX10 to F5.7?

Uh, maximum aperture means smallest f/number (i.e. largest aperture diameter). So it can't go below f/5.7 on the long end. It'll do f/8 no problem.
Remember, with aperture, a smaller f/number = bigger aperture.
You can buy the SX10 without any worries :).

Sorry, I worded it poorly. I wasn't sure if the F5.7 limit was just while zooming all the way or if it was the highest F-number that you could use anytime. I'm glad that the SX10 can shoot at F8. That's a big relief.

You just don't want to be alone. Although LR's thread has magically come back to life. http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/images/smilies/evil_lol.gif
