View Full Version : G10 hotspot already?

Owned this G10 a short while, just about 250 shots taken with it so far and
the last few images I noticed a hot spot, in this case a blue area same spot

Is this something that usually happens? and does it get worse???

I've owned other G series cameras, still have the G7 and they don't have
any thing like that happening, yet...

in this reduced size image it isn't of course a BIG thing, it could be cloned out easily
just worried that it's something that will get worse?

on the bottom sheath near the left side, you can just see the small blue dot

here's a crop of that

These are knife sheaths that I make, which helped pay for the G10 and most of
my toys, it's a good hobby that supports my fun things ;) Otherwise I'd not
have any toys, as my day job check goes directly to the family and house.

gary,
first, those sheathes are very cool. nice work.

on the full image, i can 't find the blue spot. I've had a g10 for about 2+ weeks and have never seen anything like that. where did you get it, maybe an exchange is in order.

thanks, it's a hobby, just enough to keep it so it's not like work, all
are custom form fitted and hand sewn, takes a while to make them.

And yes, it's weird, shot in RAW when I cropped the image, it went from
blue to white and then on the overall shot it is small but when I was bringing
in the file, of course on black! it showed up very well, I've seen it a couple other
times.

I bought the camera from B&H photo, don't know that it needs to go right away, it's
been at least a month now that I've had it.

hmmm...that looks like a "hot pixel", (not sure about terminology) but blue. i havent seen anything like it before. i've seen red, white, yellowish hot pixels but none like that. i better check my pics. i've only had my G10 for a week...

by the way, excellent craftsmanship! those are fine sheaths.

If it makes you feel any better, my 5D has got hot pixels all over it, and they show up as blue, red or white depending on the shot.

They're so small I just ignore it. :)

Thanks guys, I'll not worry much more about it then and thanks for the compliment on the sheaths
not many folks make them as I do, so it's a niche that helps a lot with a little extra income, here's a shot of
a desk knife sheath I made a while back, older knife blade is damascus with pearl handle

Mostly now I just make folder sheaths, not fixed blade, but this was for a friend and it
was a desk type sheath not one to wear on the belt,

I don't know if Canon Firmware will do this but I seem to remember that Sony DSLRs ( and Minolta before that ) will deal with this problem about once a month. I can't remember all the details but it's supposed to detect hot pixels at a monthly check and then map them out.

How about turning your hand to making camera cases?
This guy makes money

and your work sure looks good.

I'll check into that

as to leather for camera cases, there might be something in that but
all my stuff is hand sewn and a bit heavier leather, no sewing machine
which you'd need for the softer leather but thanks for that thought!

It's a hot pixel. Not really an issue as you can clone it out if it shows up in an enlargement.

Beauty leather work! The desk sheath looks very nice as do the belt sheaths.

Thanks I figured that was it, does it just 'happen' or did I do something bad to cause it??

and it's a good thing the sheath's are well liked, just finished up those three, they helped
to get tires a few days ago, handy :)

A famous knife maker named Tony Bose made that desk knife as well as this one,

I use to make fixed blade sheaths, but now only focus on folders, just prefer those a lot more
but took on the desk knives as they would not be carried on a belt, seems people are just
not too careful when they return knives back to the sheath and always seem to slice
into the opening, so folders elminate that problem, the desk sheath is a more controlled
application ;)

Your sheaths are wonderful, I've made one, shaped over the knife like you have and it came out great but I couldn't charge enough to make those worthwhile, I tooled mine and kept a custom knife I had made it for about 10 years just because it was a work of art but sold it or actually traded it for a damascus Japanese Gyuto chef's knife last year, I prefer cooking knives as I actually use them.

That butterfly knife would get you arrested if caught with one where I live, but I had a friend who was so fast showing off with one of those things it was scary.

You're work is wonderful, thank you for sharing those with us. You're use of the little camera and your lighting nicely shows off both the knives and the wonderful flavor of the leather, very sweetly showing the leathers grain, very nice.
