I was watching the Britney Spear's documentary ... and i spotted a paparazzi using a flash rig in which the flash on the right side of the lens, probably about one inch from the lens, almost as if it was attached to the normal grip of the camera ...

anyone know what i'm talking about? or is it a self made rig?

almost ... but the flash rest on the right side, in front of the grip, right beside the lens ... but thats a good link though, thanks

canon's website is hard to navigate for things like this ... maybe its a custom design this the paparazzi want eliminate harsh shadows

Was the flash standing upright relative to the camera? Or was it sideways?

Maybe try to find the Documentary on youtube, and print.screen when you see it. I'm pretty interested in what you're talking about.
