Basketball season begins in my area Friday evening. Here are a couple of shots from one of the final exhibition games I went to. Shot with on-camera flash, bounced off the ceiling to help reduce the shadows. I know most on this board dispel the use of flash for basketball. Here in Maine, every media outlet uses either on-camera or strobes. For those that use flash, what have you found that works, doesn't work. I have found shooting in manual, bouncing the flash off the ceiling at 1/200 and f/2.8 works best.

Not bad for flash. I am one of those who usually does not like it, but with the bounce I think the light looks alot better and a little more natural.

Thanks... I really have found bouncing the flash off the ceiling gives a really nice look to the photos. Here is one more from a middle school game. 1/200, f/4, ISO 800, 85mm with the MKIII

the first is nice as is the last (which is better imo). the second appears to be oof which could also be some motion blur due to the fact that bouncing can make it touch to find enough flash power to really stop things (depends on lots of factors obviously).
