I photograph mostly outdoors (nature, landscape, ect.) is it worth spending money on an external flash if I dont really do any indoor photography but every once in a while? I am newer to photography just wondering.

my vote is no not right now if you are mainly doing landsacpes...work with the light you're given and invest in a good tripod...just my $0.02...

A flash is almost always a good investment. Although if you are primarly shooting landscape, it is one of those item you can put off buying until you feel you need it.

Get a flash the first time you look at one of your nature shots and think, "I could have used fill flash on this one." Or when one of your friends or relatives asks you to do an indoor shoot for them.

I did without an external flash for 5 years doing mainly landscape. Once I decided to play indoors, I bought 6 flashes within 2 months... ;) I still vote for a tripod for landscapes if money is an object and it was an either/or decision.

I have a good tripod already. The reason I asked is because I am getting ready to upgrade my camera, so I am trying to get an idea of where I should spend the cash.

Point of order - flash units are not just for indoor use. They are invaluable in outdoor portraiture and I've even used them to light a landscape vignette.

But if you are not doing anything like that I'd put off the flash until your photography is limited by not having one.
