Took this shoot on top of a monument at Andersonville National Historic Site. I have always thought sundials were ingenious. Please Critique away.

I think what harms this photo most is the depth of field. The element that dominates the photo is the vertical portion of the sundial, but it's out of focus. Instead, the roman numerals are what are in focus... and even then, only a few of them. The III and IV are not within the DOF. It bothers me that so much of the bottom third is empty space and out of focus.

Reign put it very well. Why not step back, shoot the whole dial then crop however you like it with much better DOF?

How do you adjust a sun dial for daylight savings time?

I was trying to lead the eye to the time, that is why I used a shallow DOF and focused on the I. I see now how that causes a distraction and leads the eye where I didn't want it. Thank you for your honest opinion. I appreciate it.

Thank you for your comments.
