I don't usually do that many b&w images.
I was wondering if you think this conversion works.
Thanks mucho in advance

Good pose, good lighting, good wardrobe, good b&W conversion. Make that "very good".
What blows it a bit for me is the stack of chairs. Very bold pattern which detracts from her blouse and trousers.
With a simpler background this would have been superb!
As it is the chairs give it more of a "reportage" vibe, but of an extremely high standard!!!

Eljustino,
Thanks very much for your post.
That is very nice of you to take the time to give your critique.
It was actually sort of a "reportage" as I was at an Irish Dance troup's practice, and I was asked to take pictures of/for them. This was just a candid, nothing posed.
Thanks again. :)

ok so i will ask.
what makes a converted color to BW pic good?
as this is all new to me.
i personally like the way her head is. not the right arm as it seems odd. or the hair as the arm is messing that up, but the head slightly tilted and looking off.

I too have been trying to find what makes a good b&w conversion. I think it's ALL about the tonallity and preserving detail in the highlights. I think THIS (http://194.100.88.243/petteri/pont/How_to/n_Digital_BW/n_Digital_BW/a_Digital_Black_and_White.html)page gives a great explanation.

I had a good laugh when I read this, especially the part about the arm messing up the hair. I think because this was not a posed shot, but a candid, and it kind of says "hey, you stand funny", if you know what I mean.
:)
Thanks again for taking the time to critique Monty.

i hesitated when i typed, but i typed anyways.
i have found when looking at photo.net at pics i find the portrait type shots with tilted or turned heads to be more appealing to me. tis why i commented as i did.
thanx for the BW linkage. will check it out.

Monty, I think that B&W linkage is the best description of digital conversions, and the whole B&W process I've ever found. It's really well written too.
Aam1234, thanks for the compliment :)
