Hi All, I just spent the day out at the track taking photos with my 50D, the picks looked ok on the screen but when on the computer they all look over exposed. I was shooting in TV mode, so I thought the exposure would of been ok. Can you Guys and Girls recommand anything for me to try.
Cheers

exposure compensation
Thanks but how do I know how far to go, they already look good on the camera screen. Do I have them so they appear dark and hope they are ok when transfered to the PC.
Thanks

is your monitor calibrated? If not, get it done - Pantone Huey is cheap and works.

No my monitor isnt calibrated but I have never had issues with my 20D shots, could it have anything to do with the metering mode used? I dont know much about this, it was a very bright day when the sun was out. Should I be using spot metering or something else?

I never trust the screen of my 40D - on it every picture looks slightly blurry, a bit under exposed and too blue, while on the computer screen they are fine. I check the histogram and use exposure compensation (when needed) with Av and Tv or shoot in full manual mode.

Try EC as Andrew said. I generally under expose 1/3-1 stop, depending on the light (especially if the primary car I am shooting is white.). I have a calibrated moniter and a non calibrated moniter. There is a big difference. On the Non Calibrated moniter shots will look over expose where on the calibrated one they are spot on. So that is something you might want to try as well.

I tend to sit around the +1/3EV range for most of my shooting. Are you using Auto ISO without capping it? On my 40D I had reset my firmware once and had the camera on Auto ISO without capping it and the camera was pretty unruly in bouncing all over with ISO's which caused some pretty blown out shots.
I gave up chimping after owning the Mk2 for a bit.. trying to chimp on a 2" LCD just taught me not to rely on it or even bother so I just fire away and review on the laptop when I am done for the day.

This shows how the subject can affect the exposure & why manual keeps me worry free:

Click the "Thread: Need an exposure crutch?" link at the top-right if you'd like more info on exposure. I have a calibrated moniter and a non calibrated moniter. There is a big difference. Color managed browsers are another thing to think about. What you're seeing in another browser is probably not what some of the rest of us are seeing? Take a look at: Firefox (3.0.4) + add ons (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=602787)

post some examples PlayMits.. i always use the histogram for exposure adjustment.. the LCD on the back is not very accurate color or brightness wise.

Here are some examples for you to have a look at, they are the RAW file straight from the camera. I was shooting with large RAW + small Jpeg.

I went out shooting again on Sunday and set the camera -1 stop and all the photos appear much better.
