I was going through some photos I took on our vacation this summer and came across these so I thought I'd share. They're from Ripley's Aquarium of the Smokies (http://www.ripleysaquariumofthesmokies.com/) in Gatlinburg, Tennessee. We were passing through the area and saw billboard after billboard for Ripley's and their "Amazing Killer Sharks" so we thought it would make for an interesting pit stop. We wound up spending the entire day at the aquarium which, much to my surprise, was absolutely beautiful. When I see the name Ripley's and I think of their road side attractions down in Florida with stuffed, 8 legged cows and a replica of the world’s tallest man, but this was quite the contrary. Very well done, spotlessly clean and surprising cheap!

Unfortunately, I lost the note pad that I used to write down the names of all of the fish, so if anyone has the proper names for these guys, please share! :D

These were shot with the 20D, kit lens at either 800 & 1600.

Thank you all very much, I'm glad you enjoyed them.

Yes, I was surprised with the results of the kit lens myself! Seeing as how I was shooting through 3+ inches of glass, handheld, I couldn't have asked for better sharpness. (Although I give the Aquarium 90% of the credit for keeping their glass so crystal clear!)

I've never shot fish before (there's a joke about a barrel in there somewhere ;) ) but now I'm looking forward to my next Aquarium field trip. L Lens and a monopod next time!

Thanks again,
Lisa

I like the stone fish. One of the deadliest fish you can find. They can actually change thier colors to their surrounding a bit.
