boiling water

I got this , few months ago, with my G3 and 420EX flash bouncing onto a wood furniture that was above the stainless steel pan.
The group of small bubbles are at the surface of the water and the big ones are inside the water, going up and vibrating ( that explain their strange texture).
I was very surprised by the result ( no post processing).

the water is that lovely rich colour from the flash bounced off the wood ?
was there any steam to talk about to harm the camera lens ?

Marie, I think the color as something to do with he flash bouncing on the
