Canon S70 - The Successor?

I am thinking of buying an S70 for all the usual reasons, particularly the 28mm lens and the RAW output.

However, it looks to me that the S70 is already yesterday's technology. Pretty slow to start up, poor AF performance, poor resolution and small 1.8" LCD, USB 1.1 etc.

The competition are all bringing out improved models, but Canon did not when it went from the S60 to the S70, except for the higher resolution. No DIGIC II for instance.

Anyone got hold of any rumours/fact from Canon on the successor to the S70 and when?

Thanks.

I'd think that if they were going to announce one any time soon it would have been last month at PMA. They've just upgraded the A75 and A85 as well as the DR. They may be thinking of the new A5x0 series as a replacement for both the Sx0 and Axx lines.

To replace the Sx0 range with the Ax5 or SDx00 seems like a backwards step to me. The S70 is a really good camera with a semi-pro feature set and the excellent 28mm lens. Canon must see the S70 as appealing to a different market than those other ranges?

What it needs is the improvements that would take it up to scratch for a current spec. DIGIC II would be a start.
