Went to the PBR competition last Saturday. Sat in the 2nd row for all of these photos. Taken with a 20D and the 75-300mm 4-5.6 III USM. The lighting in the Savvis Center was VERY good. The lense is just a little too slow to stop the action though.

Opening Festivities: 75mm, 1/200, F 6.3, ISO 1600

Chris Shivers on a bull that I can't remember the name of: 260mm, 1/125, F 5.6, ISO 1600

Love the first shot with the fireworks and flame. Nice shot of the clown in the second shot, and the THIRD shot? About all I have to say about that one is;

YeeeHAAA! :shock:
Nice shot of the Bull and Rider catching some serious AIR. :D

I have been trying to shoot rodeos with my Sony F828 and couldn't get 1 out of a 100. I just bought the 20D and hoping to get to a rodeo soon. Your 75-300 got some good light. I am really amazed at the noise level at 1600. Not much at all. Great shot of the bull in the air.

I took about 150 shots. Of the action shots, there are only 2 or 3 of them that aren't noticeably blurred. And keep in mind, the lighting in the Savvis Center simply doesn't get any better.

I'm still completely new to the world of the SLR camera. The 20D is my 1st. The 75-300 was a result of "new toy" syndrome. I wanted a lense with some reach, but I couldn't afford more than about $250. It was a good choice for my budget, but I have learned VERY quickly that its image quality is lacking. I look at the sharpness of the pics I take, and then look at some of the samples of L glass, and I realize why everyone talks down about Canon's 75-300 lenses. If I did it over, I would pass on the 75-300 and find a different solution... or maybe demonstrate some patience and wait for a lottery win to by some L glass.

I think bull ridding is the king of mens sports. There is nothing better. Anyone here ever mounted up in the shoot? Takes a different kind of person . . .
