I know most of you use Photoshop, but I cant afford that at the present time. I purchased Adobe Photoshop Elements 6 along with Adobe Premiere Elements 4, and just cant get the hang of anything in Photoshop Elements. Would really like to learn how to edit my pics. I have read the manual several times, but find it very incomplete. Was wondering if anyone knew of some free info on the web, or tutorials, that pertain to this software. If not I may be able to visit a bookstore tommorrow, maybe some literature suggestions on this software. Also, what do you guys think, is this software as good as, better than, or worse that this "Gimp" that I hear about. Thanks for all the help:D

Just do a Google search, there are tons of videos and tutorials on the net. PS and PSE are great editing tools.
BTW I made a lot of free video tutorials for Premier Elements that should be helpful to you. They are for PE3 but the principles are the same for all versions. http://www.freewebs.com/pe3help

I have "the missing manual" it goes through basically everything you can do in Elements 6. Here's a link

Here (http://www.amazon.com/Photoshop-Elements-6-Missing-Manual/dp/0596514441/ref=sr_1_11?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1228535515&sr=8-11)

I use photoshop elements 6 and really like it after upgrading from the 2nd version. IMO, Photoshop is not user friendly in terms of user interface and you need to have lots of practice to become really comfortable, effective, and fast with it.

I personally like UK photo mags, they have good tutorials online and in the mags.

I think Gimp has an advantage in the colour curves, because I can't seem to get sometimes a natural colour tone in Photoshop Elements 6 i.e. it is either to little or to much (colour contrast), where I would like to enhance one or two of the colour channels, using the curves

FrankC,

I just took a look at your site and your book layout. You do a hell of a good job with that Brownie of yours.

At the risk of inflating his ego beyond what it already is, PhotosGuy does good work and gives good feedback.

You do a hell of a good job with that Brownie of yours. Use something for 50+ years & you learn it's strengths & limitations! :D At the risk of inflating his ego beyond what it already is... In this tough economy, I've had to stop buying bigger hats.

Seriously, the book wasn't all that hard to make. The hardest part is to just finding a place/subject to start with. I was lucky because the thought came to me that the car needed to be on a book cover & it all fell into place after that. So get to work on one of your own!

Scott Kelby has a nice Elements 6 tutorial. Just picked it up myself at the bookstore this past week-end.
