Finally someone has rectified Canon marketings design stupidy with respect to their lens adapter. Just received an email from Lensmate notifying of the availability of 2 adapters. 1 for filters and 1 for lens

Here is a copy of the contents of the email

Dear Lensmate Customer,

We realize it has been a long time since we announced that we were working on an adapter for the Canon G10.

Manufacturing a new product can be a daunting timeline, from design to engineering drawings for the machinist, prototypes, finding metal, setting up the computer and all the tooling needed to allow the CNC machine to do everything in one run. Then the part goes to another company to be bead blasted, and then another company outside our state for anodizing. Timing on the G10 has been more complicated as the adapter is in 3 pieces.

Anyway, we just wanted you to have an idea on why we have not been able to give you answers to when the G10 would be available.

We are emailing the first section of our very long interested parties list in order to allow you first dibs - below are 2 links, one to our description page, and one to our order page. Please note that these pages are not accessible through our regular website only through this email - we thought this was the fairest way to work out our first shipment as we will not be able to cover all the people interested.

Place your order as soon as you are able, we will email the next section of the interested parties list in two days. There is no need to respond to this email.

Be sure to read the description page before ordering to make sure you are buying the correct adapter parts to suit your needs. Since we are a small company your credit card will be charged at the time of purchase, we anticipate being able to ship your order around December 12th. Note that this date could move out one or two days due to the anodizers schedule.

We think you will be very happy with the aesthetics of the G10 Lensmate adapter, looks great on the camera. We have created an adapter with multiple options for using filters and conversion lenses at all focal lengths, with excellent tolerances for a firm fit.

Read the first link first , you will then need to click on the 2nd link to place an order - the 2 links are not connected.

Thanks for the info. I was about to ask a local machining shop to machine one for me. I've converted my G10 to be a permanent IR camera and need to mount a R72 filter on the LADC58K. I found that at max tele zoom the lens barrel strikes the filter. My other solution was to use a step up ring but now I'v ordered the A+B+C combo from Lensmate.

Mine just showed up today...

I ordered the base section and the filter section. I already have the canon adapter
which i can use if i ever pick up the teleconverter, so i didnt see a need to buy the
other front section of the lensmate as well.

This thing is solid! Looks great and feels great. It also mounts to the camera MUCH
tighter than the canon adapter which is a huge plus. And now i can mount my fisheye
and macro lens right in front of the lens on the base section without zooming and no
vigenetting.

Also, the front filter section can be used as a hood without a filter on, which Ill def
be making use of for outdoor shooting.

All in all I couldnt be happier, and id recomend passing on the canon adapter and
pikcing up the lensmate if your debating between the two.

Can someone explain to me how these things actually work in practice. I'm new to this G world :)

For example when you switch off the G9/10 does the lens just retract as normal leaving a void behind a filter or extra lens? Do all normal functions still work - AF, exposure controls etc... or do you need to do manual calculations and take light readings etc in the old way? What's involved in it all other than yet more expense?

Please lighten my darkness.

all functions work normaly, as does the lens.
its just an adpater. it locks onto the front of the camera to allow
add ons. when you are using the teleconverter your supposed to turn
the converter mode on, but everything still functions the same

Is the Lensmate left on the camera permanently?
