Does any use the D ring camera straps sold with some backpacks rather than a neck strap? I've got the rings on my Tamrac Expedition 5. They seem handy by putting the camera's weight on both shoulders rather than on the neck and have pop-off buckles.

Just wonder if they're useful.

Thanks.

I seem to remember something about it in the show us your camera bag or something in a neck strap thread a long time ago. Can't remember for sure though.

YES!
I bought Tamrac's backpack straps that attached to my backpack's D-rings. I bought them before we went to Disney world last Oct and they saved my neck from the strain and chafing a neckstrap gives after wearing it around your neck for 10+ hours :)

It worked out perfectly.

I have a set that I tried on a backpack (I don't remember which one) and I found they didn't allow me the freedom of movement I enjoyed with a normal neck strap. It was difficult to get the camera into the vertical position, even with the straps extended fully. They now reside in a drawer of my desk...

I use the D ring straps with the two camera lanyards from an Optec neck strap...the buckles are the same. The Optec webbing is much longer than the Tamrac lanyards, and allows easy vertical shooting.

I've added some straps to a Kelty internal frame backpack that I can clip to a Thinktank holster. I also use an Optima strap with the dual attaching straps, one set for the holster and the other for the camera. The straps attached to the backpack shoulder pads significantly reduce the strain on my neck for extended hiking. It is a little more effort to hook up, but the added comfort is worth the effort..

my thinktank bag came with these and i absolutly love them. i can't believe every bag maker does not make these standard. i think getting it vertical could be a problem but i don't find it a burden (i just unclip in thise case)
