I shot this just after sunset today. ISO 100, f/5.7 1/500 s. Handheld. I cropped it down, did some curve work, desaturation and noise reduction, all in Photoshop.

that looks good, in fact better than the moon shot I took with an S5

Makes me even happier that I bought mine.

Well, the S5's lens is going to give you a much smaller image on your sensor. It's not really a fair comparison.

The curve work was an important part of this image, as the sky was still quite blue and bright when I shot it.

Could you post the original with no pp? I think I could learn something here.

That's a beautiful shot. Frame-able if you ask me.

That is a gorgeous shot. Thanks for sharing your settings. I've gotten some pretty good ones with my S5 IS this week, but not that good! I haven't photoshopped them at all, so I also appreciate the suggestions for doing that.

Excellent shot, BubbaBob. You folks might check out the Astronomy and Celestrial section where you can find lots of people shooting the moon as well as other heavenly bodies:

There's also an astronomy equipment forum:

Ditto. Thanks for sharing, at least now I can have some fun tinkering with my old S2. Won't get these results, but what the heck? :-)

ISO 100, f/5.7 1/500 s. I shot during daylight, so that's about as much light pollution as you can get. Shot from Albuquerque, NM.

Very nice capture.

Here's my moon shot also using an SX10. This was taken 11:40 PM, much later than originally expected. It was starting to get overcast and the moon was almost directly overhead which wasn't very nice. This was shot hand-held so it isn't be best quality because it was very COLD and I couldn't stop shaking (I also forgot to look at the ISO setting). But I really wanted to take a picture of the moon that night since it was supposed to be the brightest/fullest/closest moon of the year. Sadly, at around 7:00 PM when the moon was at a much better angle and appeared much bigger I was driving and didn't have my camera or I would have pulled over.

Your image has some very nice definition that I am envious of.

For my first picture of the moon though I think it turned out well enough that I'll try again -- when it is a bit warmer!

There isn't much definition to be had during a full moon. The shadows are all at their shortest length. The best definition is always along the terminator (the sunrise/sunset region of the moon).
