Canon 1.4x TC Mk I or Mk II

I'm on the verge of buying a Canon 1.4x TC. Are there any optical differences between using the MkI and MkII TCs with, in particular, the 70-200mm f4 L and 300mm f4 L IS lenses?

In other words, should I splash out on a new 1.4x TC MkII, or should I save some money and go for a second hand mint 1.4x TC MkI?

Image quality is my prime concern.

I don't know this for sure, but I think I remember reading that the MKI version was NOT weather sealed. Somebody please correct me if this is rubbish :lol:

Maybe not a big issue unless you are using a 1-series.

MKII is weather sealed while MKI is not. MKII extenders can be stacked together while MKI cannot be stacked (without extension tube). I have the 1.4x TC MKII and a 2.0x TC MKI. My MKII version is better than the MKI. Seriously, the image quality of 1.4xMKI and 1.4xMKII are as good.

Canon says the 1.4x are pretty much the same, but the 2X are very different, even though they both still pretty much suck.

I just tested the 1.4MKI which I got for dirt on a 70-200 f/2.8, I swear I could not tell a difference with it or without it. MDR, your camera is not weather sealed, so weather sealing on the TC is not really of a concern as far as I can see............

If you want to be safe and dont have extention tubes, get the MKII, unless you find an older one for cheap.

Thanks guys. Have just purchased a mint second hand Mk I. I couldn't justify the £90 more for the Mk II based on your comments.
