I am in need of a mid/ low cost point and shoot that I can use while doing whitewater rafting. I am pretty much a novice and do many water and oudooor activities. Any suggestions greatly appreciated-Thank You:)

Any Canon you were to get, you'd need a waterproof housing for. The rigid plexiglass ones will run around $160 or so. That's in addition to the camera. But that will give you some impact protection as well, which the "baggie" housings or the waterproof cameras don't offer. I have Canon's housing for my (discontinued) A630, having passed on my A620 and housing to my sister. You have full access to the controls, but you're looking at a $300+ bundle.
