I recently started doing some pro level work and would really like to make money as just a photographer. Here are my questions...

1.If I do this alone what is the best method of getting clients. I do have access to a commercial space for a studio setting or I can go to location.

2.Does working for a studio pay well? Where do you find jobs working for a studio? Where should I be looking?

Thanks!

Wow. what a loaded question. :-)

Re: 1 - going alone -- getting clients. Start with friends/family to build up a portfolio. Expect to get paid nothing but cost on this work though. Get referrals from them, and then start building from there. This is a very slow ramp up. Also, post on Craigslist... you can do a model search with exchange of prints for rights to use them in your portfolio... Again, builds the portfolio.

Re: 2 - No. It doesn't pay well. Expect to earn an hourly wage and depending on the studio, commission on prints sold. And careful here, because you can't take the studio's clients away as your own... usually at least. This is all "work for hire" work, so even though it's your work, it belongs to the studio. Work with the studio owner/your boss to see if he/she will let you use it in your portfolio though. Most will, but you need to be clear about it and ask.

Hope this helps....

www.rawimagephoto.com Re: your url - I get "Directory has no index file. Browsing this site or directory without an index file is prohibited."

Lots of links here:
Getting a business license as Sole Proprietor or LLC (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=478815)

Because you have a descriptive title, you can look at the "Similar Threads" links at the bottom-left of this page!
Each link you visit should provide more links at the bottom.

Directory has no index file.
Browsing this site or directory without an index file is prohibited.
If you are the site's webmaster, you can remedy this problem by creating a default HTML page with one of the following names:

index.html
index.htm
default.htm
Default.htm
home.html
Home.chtml
NOTE: Filenames are case sensitive, i.e., Home.html is not the same as home.html
