I want a grip for my 40D but I can not afford a genuine canon grip, nor can I get my hands on one for $100.00 or below.

What is the best after market grip at an affordable price? If you can recommend one, is it from personal use? Does it work with out trouble? How does it feel?

Thank you very much. Your replies will help in making my final decision.

I use this one (http://cgi.ebay.com/Phottix-BP-40D-Grip-for-Canon-20D-30D-40D-50D-BG-E2N_W0QQitemZ170284106226QQcmdZViewItemQQptZBatter ies_Chargers?hash=item170284106226&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1209%7C66%3A2%7C65%3A12%7C39%3A1%7C 240%3A1318%7C301%3A1%7C293%3A1%7C294%3A50) - USD73.00 with free shipping - used it for a month now. Build quality is excellent and I haven't taken it off from my 40D since I got it.

I haven't tried the genuine Canon version - but I've heard people say the build quality is similar...

Looks nice. Hong Kong huh. How long did it take to get it to you?

I dunno, 7-10 days maybe? It was actually faster than I expected.

Hmm thats interesting. I would love to see how it compares side by side to the canon grip. My friend has some aftermarket on his 40D and its far from the quality of the bg-e2 so Im hesitant to risk it... Hopefully someone else can chime in on their experiences with one?

I didn't even know aftermarket grips existed. Interesting.

Of course I just bought an L-bracket for my 40D sans grip and that cost twice what this did. Wouldn't make much sense to purchase a grip then buy another L-bracket.

Darosk can you provide pics of the grip attached to your 40D?

Have you checked ebay? I got a bnin canon bg-e2, the grip for the 20d/30d for 125 shipped with the AA battery tray. The only difference between it and the new one is the weathersealing.

Between Daros K's assessment, and JJDaven "Joe D's" You tube reviews I'm sold on the Phottix unit. Just ordered one from the same eBay seller. I'm geeked! :D
