View Full Version : POTN WORLDWIDE "Seasonal Sights" SHOOTOUT -- All welcome -- Dec. 8 - Jan. 1, 2009

BLS
8th of December 2008 (Mon), 07:20
Note: Shots need to be taken between sunrise Dec. 8, 2008 and sunset Jan. 1, 2009. Please, no old shots from your archive.

Let's celebrate the season by shooting and sharing it in a worldwide shootout. The idea is to capture and share the sights that signify the season. Those sights might relate to Christmas, Hanukkah, winter, summer (south of the equator), the solstice, mid-year exams, etc. The interpretation is up to you and your imagination.

So grab your camera and keep it with you, and then keep your eyes open for things and events that mean 'tis the season to you.

Here are the rules:

1. Shots need to be taken between sunrise Dec. 8, 2008 and sunset January 1, 2009. Because this activity is supposed to encourage us to get out and shoot, please don't post old shots from your archives. Both snap shots and art are equally welcome -- just get out & shoot, and then share!

2. Post your shots at any time during the shootout period and for a few days after the end of the period.

3. Post a maximum of two shots per day if you're uploading them to POTN (i.e., attaching them). You can post more than two per day if you're linking to shots that are not hosted by POTN (i.e.,embedding them), but keep within POTN rules. Also keep within POTN rules about size. A copy of the size rules can be found here: http://photography-on-the.net/forum/...d.php?t=194511 (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=194511)

That's it! Have fun!

These are once-a-year sights. (The bellringers, not the yellow post.:D)
When I see the bellringers, I know Christmas is coming.

What a perfect shot for the theme! I can't believe all the ringers out this year...I'm going to go broke :-)

I put up a Christmas village every year, complete with miniature lit trees and streetlights.

This is an annual sight in a nearby small town.
Parents and kids alike seem to enjoy it.
Behind the caboose is another train car that houses an elaborate model railroad.
Most people visit Santa and then head for the model RR.
Everyone smiles when they see it.

Still here! Things seem to be slow all over POTN the last few days...pre Christmas madness I think. I have something to post, just haven't PP'ed it yet :-)

I had to laugh because I too, had a pic of my kids doing the annual gingerbread house...but as the saying goes, you snooze you lose! So we sent the kids outside today to burn off some of their pent up energy. It's going to be a long winter ;-)

I'm surprised at how quiet this thread is.

Gosh, where is everyone?

I am still trying to get some sleep. ;)

But what a GREAT idea for a WWPDish event!

Here are a few from the past few weeks.

Santa made a special trip to our house last week. He read a story to our daughter and posed for some pictures.

We have had some weird weather this year. It got cold really early so we thought we were in for a cold winter. Then we had 70 degree days! Then it got cold again, and it is supposed to be in the 60s for Christmas! But on one of those cold days my daughter was enjoying herself outside.

Here's another annual sight in our area.
The Lion's Club in a small, nearby town sells citrus fruit each year.
They buy a truckload, and then start selling the fruit right after Thanksgiving.
They sell it until they're sold out.
I went by this place on Monday, and everything was gone -- sold out!

Tastes great, too.

Skrim17
24th of December 2008 (Wed), 20:55
And those folks that do buy citrus from the Lions should know that organizations like mine benefit from those sales. The Lions organization is incredibly kind to us and we are forever in their debt. www.theopportunitycenter.org

BLS

Yes, the Lions do good work for others.

Lots of folks buy the fruit, that's for sure.
It's always busy when I'm there.
And lots of folks buy the fruit by the case.
Me, I buy by the dozen.
But you can also buy one at a time. Whatever your needs are.
And the volunteers manning the stand are always cheerful.
