I work as a video engineer for conventions. My work takes me on location about very week.

Are there any types of security equipment (like laptop locks?) available for DSLRs?

I don't want to have to resort to a hard case if I don't have to.

Also, what type of insurance do you folks use for your gear.

I'm not sure if this is the kind of thing you had in mind but maybe one of their products will work for you...

The best security equipment is to NEVER LET IT OUT OF YOUR HANDS! And, even that doesn't work sometimes.
People used to chain their bikes to posts. The thieves had pre-loostened the posts & just lifted the posts & ran off with the bikes! Or cut the cable/chains, etc...
