I don't know if nerves of steel is the right title.
Be aware of what MIGHT happen.

Completely predictable to be honest.
I dare say the majority of people who have shot a Rally will have seen a car lose control immediately after a jump like that.
The photographer should have had more sense.

Is the man who shot the video still alive ?

That's insane! That car was trashed. Notice how the photograher casually grabs a pic and then obviously realises "hell, I better go and help" and runs over.

Something i should add from my previous post.
He makes NO attempt to shoot either car as it goes over the jump, which i find strange...yet as soon as the second car crashes, he raises his camera and starts snapping away. There's a name for people like that but i'd probably be banned for using it here.
Speaking for myself (and i'm sure certain people will confirm it) i am very twitchy when a car shows even the slightest sign of losing control in my general direction....
There's always another car to shoot but there's only 1 me to shoot it ;)

Total pillock is a much more apt title.
The guy is a complete idiot. He is standing in the most dangerous area possible after a high speed jump, the wall he is standing behind offers little in the way of protection and it doesn't look like he's got much in the way of an escape route should things go wrong. What makes it even worse, is that he is putting himself in an extremely dangerous position totally unnecessarily as he isn't even taking any pictures.
I'm with Geoff (GSH) here on this one with regards to safety. He can vouch for the amount of time that we have spent on the last few rallies we've been out on together evaluating how safe we will be in the positions we've photographed from. That includes having a clear escape route that we can use if the worst does happen. If like the guy in this video clip you have total disregard for your own safety, spare a moment to think of the effect it will have on the crew of the rally car after they've splattered you all over the stage. It might not have been their fault, but they will have to live with it for the rest of their lives.
No picture is worth putting yourself in that sort of risk for - PERIOD.

Perfectly put.
And, think about family and friends who would have to live with it too.

And he's not dedicated, he's an idiot for standing there and that's the polite way to describe him.

Livinthalife,
Not necessarily directed at you but you bring up a valid point.Okay my fellow photographers, put yourself in that situation. You run over to help what's the first thing you should do.....................?
Scroll down
Turn around and face the uncoming traffic. The chance of you becoming a statistic is higher if you don't turn around. Unless you are trained in BLS/ALS and spinal Immobiliaztion and know EXACTLY what to do please do the professionals a favor and don't help. What are you going to do without any rescue equipment anyway, hold his hand? If you choose to help please be careful when you try and help. He should have approached the car from the front, that way if the driver is conscious he won't instinctively turn his head towards you causing further possible spinal injuries when you ask him"are you okay"? Thank you rant is over!:D

wow..that is a tough hypothetical situation to put oneself in. I know here in Southern Cal, right now, there is a person being sued. The good samaritan was trying to help and caused further injuries which resulted in the victom becoming paralized.....scary thought

I just read that two days ago! Once upon a time we (professional Firefighters/Paramedics were protected under that "Good samaritan law" Now it seems anyone can be sued. Please do stop and help if it's safe. Please be aware of your surroundings at all times and what you do while rendering aid. Just do what I do, take the pictures then render help to the person.J/K;)

Makes me wonder though, had he been taking a shot of the car, would he have had the sense (and the reflexes) to get out of the way? Probably not. That's why I try to pick the best spot after thinking of all of the worst possible senarios.

Having been in / witnessed that sort of situation along with many others on here..
The first thing you should do is slow down / stop the cars following. With a 30 second interval between cars by the time the idiot in the video has snapped a couple of pointless shots, thought about it and decided to help, the next car will be due over that jump. Turning around and facing the traffic won't make a bit of difference if another car loses it.
If the crew was so badly injured that they were making no attempt to release their harnesses and get out then obviously there's not much most of us could do other than call for help, but if they're getting out under their own steam i will do anything i can to help them, including getting the car back on its wheels to let them carry on with the rally if possible.
The official line in the UK is that the next car through stops & checks on the crew and the car after that calls / goes for help if none is on the scene. In a 15 mile forest stage it's going to take the professionals a long time to get there.
The day i shy away from helping someone due to fear of an Ambulance chasing scumbag Lawyer will be the day i stop attending rallies as we all know a crash can happen at any time.
Fortunately, the UK for all its faults isn't quite that bad as yet.
