ISO Speed & Image Resolution with the Canon D-60:

I try shooting at ISO 100 while using the Large/Fine (3072x2048) Quality setting. This ISO rating often necessitates a tripod, especially in these shorter days of lessened sunlight.

How would increasing the ISO rating to 200…or 400...effect final image quality. Can this be stated in equivalent Quality values?

[BTW, did any of you read or hear that ISO’s up to 400 cause little. noticeable image degradation?]

Many thanks.

Just going with my experience here, although there are good articles on luminous landscape about it. There are two conditions to discuss, daylight and low-light. The difference I suspect is due to the number of photons reaching the sensor which effects signal to noise ratios.

In Daylight, I can see no real difference visually at ISO 200 from ISO 100. At ISO 400, I can see a minor difference, 800 is noticeable, but may be acceptable.

In low-light, at ISO 200 I see a very minor difference, mainly I see a couple of noise artifacts. at ISO 400 I see some noise, but not too much. At ISO 800, it looks like a grainy photo.

All that said, After I get done with photoshop up to ISO 400, I can not see any real difference on a finished product up to 8x10 size. At ISO 800, I can only do so much and although I can make an 8x10, it looks a bit crappy to me no matter what I do, but 5x7 or 4x6 look fine, but not great.

Therfore I will only use ISO 800 when I have no choice. But will use up to 400 on occasion.
