View Full Version : IT'S TIME TO VOTE for the photos in the VOL 3 POTN book!
Permagrin

Wow, some great images submitted for Volume 3! Thanks to everyone who participated.
There were almost 1200 images submitted this year. That is 200 +/- over last year. What a great community effort for a great community project. Everyone should be proud; we are! The only down side is that we can’t publish them all. Like Volume 2, there will be approximately 312 photos in the book; so you can see that your task will be tough.
As in the previous two volumes, the image in each share with the most vote will be the signature shot and used as the introduction to the chapter. There will also be two shots that will be smaller than the signature shot but larger than the regular images.
Below are links to all the Share Polls.
Please read the first post in each poll. It will tell you the number of images to vote for in that particular share. In the larger shares you will be able to vote for 10 images, and in the smaller shares, the votes are limited to 5.
We must say it is going to be hard to narrow down the selections.
Again congratulations to those who participated and happy voting.

Just a reminder, be sure to note that the photo numbers are below the photo (which may not coincide with the gallery number...for example Still life/b&w #14 shows below the photo as 14 and next to the photo, it's 11th in the gallery)...
vote for the number below the photo

Just took a quick spin through a few of the galleries and, um, WOW...

Sorry for the Technical Difficulties. There were a couple of numbering errors we had to fix. Thank you for your patience. All is well now and votes are accurate. Unfortunately if you have already voted in Birds you will have to vote again.
Sorry for the inconvenience,

people, kids & family etc. down to still life, b&w & experimental....click on those words and it will take you to the poll link and on each poll, the first post has a link to the images to be voted on.

Smugmug doesn't seem able to stand up under the load. I managed to vote in three shares, but then couldn't access any more galleries. I've been trying for several hours, but still can't get in.

I never did find an announcement about submitting entries. I realize that the deadline is now past, but where would that information have been found? I thought that I tried a fairly thorough search for it a couple months ago.
Permagrin
10th of December 2008 (Wed), 11:45
It was in the competition forum and every one of the share forums...in the talk section. We tried to be thorough so that as many would see it as possible...and we bumped the "submit now" threads quite often...
Sorry about smugmug...unfortunately that's an issue they struggle with quite often.

it's true, it's a really stiff competition this year...I haven't voted in one section yet but I've viewed them all several times. The more I do, the more I'm impressed by the work submitted.

It is hard, my shortlist is 3 times the number of entries allowed in the few sections i've looked at....absolutely fabulous shots by all, and I'll congratulate each person for getting in this far already. I highly doubt any of mine will get though, but hey, those that do will truely be worthy of being in.
Out of curiousity, how many shots of each section will go into the book?
Dchemist
10th of December 2008 (Wed), 15:26
Hi Harm, The exact number varies by the size of the share. Final numbers are determined by the percentage of images submitted. The forum chooses the first 50% and then the Panel Members will choose the remaing 50%., Dennis

the only images that did not make it to the forum vote were those that the Team felt would not print well. There were very few that were submitted that did not make it to the forum vote, much less than Vol 2. That says a lot about the quality of the shots entered.

Love these picture submissions... Personally, I'd recommend viewing them all in the *Slide-show* format... that way, you'll get the optimal/full size view of the images... Cheers... Enjoy viewing, choosing and voting.

I've noticed that in some pictures the number of the votes is not equal to the number of different nicknames listed as votants. Is that all right (i.e. numbers are updated only once in a while)?
Jamie Holladay

Yes. Due to the technical difficulties the other day, the votes are correct for each image. but the listing of names may be off. Sorry about that.

one more week! i finished my voting last night.
gotta say that there were some *outstanding* photos this year, and voting in Sports, Landscapes, and Birds was particularly difficult to pick.
gotta also chime in that the HDR fad is not a good one...imo.

Yeah I just finished voting in all shares. Fierce photos. All are book worthy.
Can't we just print them all and just use the votes to see where they all get place from first to last instead?
