Hi could anybody help me I have a Cannon powershot A60 camera and for some reason I am unable to see anything through the screen I can view the photographs on the card but am unable to see anything to take photos
It will click the image I want to take but it views as a black screen. Have I pressed something wrong or could it be broken.

Thank you in advance

Have you accidentally hit the "display" button on the camera? This turns the screen on and off.

No I tried that when I got the instruction book out. I have tried all instructions
I am able to view photos which are on the card I can see them fine.
But I am not able to take more photos. Point and press just gives a black screen it counts it as a photo but doesnt view it.

Thank you

Judging from the age of that thing, it might have failed. I believe that was one of the Powershots that had the faulty Sony CCD, isn't it?

Are the pictures you take now coming out black, or is it just the LCD which is black? Have you looked at the front of the camera to see if the lens cover is opening (not just that the lens is extending)?

I had a similar issue with my A80 in the past; sent it back to Canon, they fixed it free of charge and sent it back.

Hi All

Thanks for replys I have checked the lens cover and it is opening
as the lens extends. The pictures I take are coming out black. It is reading the
coloured photos already taken I can see them.

I couldnt say if it has a sony faulty part or not.

Can it be repaired if it is broken?

At the top of this forum "Small Compact Digitals by Canon" there is a sticky titled "Service Notice for Canon PowerShot models" containing this link

http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=PgComSmModDisplayAct&keycode=2112&fcategoryid=221&modelid=9449

It talks about the defective sensor in these cameras. The A60 is listed in this service advisory. I'm happy to say that when I called Canon with the exact same problem with my five-year-old A60 and they repaired in about a week, they even paid all the shipping. Give them a call. :-)
