personally to me this fits into the overdone HDr look, i think the thing that makes it is when you can see the light halo effect around objects near the sky.

I like that overprocessed / high tonemapped look at times and this is one of those times.

I didnt use Photomatix for that image, I used Topaz Adjust filter .

I like #2 since you got an wider view. The colors turned out nice on the water.
