This is probably beating a dead horse but....

I do not want to hear or See.. All the Whining and Complaining about "This is a Canon forum Bla bla bla... "

I am sure that the thought of a Nikon specific thread is out of the question.. What about a thread listed in the equipment section Named "All other" DSLR's and Lenses... Possibly broken down my Brand.. This way no one is intruding on the Canon Only Folks..

I for one like to read about the other brands out there and would like to have a One-Stop-Shop for it..

Just a thought..

Maybe because it's a Canon group ;) JK

"Others" is a good idea. it's nice to know what the competition has to offer and what Canon needs to do to keep up, or is already winning.

Your point is well taken Mike and discussion of the various features that each manufacturer bring to the table is great.

IMO, what sets people off (and I know it does me) is when people specifically come into a Canon "church" and try to convert people by either trumpeting Nikon or ripping on Canon. It's akin to signing up on a Corvette owners board so you can boast about your Mustang GT... Every point the Mustang owner makes may or may not be true but ultimately, what's the point?

For those who think Canon rules it's a fruitless endeavor and for those who think the Nikon owner may be right, would they really admit it here? A few have (some quite loudly) but the majority are going to sit back, clam up and worry that they've sunk significant dollars into a mistake (which probably isn't the truth...)

So either way, all it ends up being is a provacation that either angers people or frightens them.

Just my $0.02...

I have no strong opinion on this, but I guess you can say that there are plenty of general camera boards, but only one really big Canon board.

Canon forum will not have other brands' forums inside, but other cameras will be included to POTN community. I am going to do it so that it is not a quick compromise solution for anyone. The solution I have will let other brand users discuss in their own areas in POTN while keeping them active part of the original Canon community, very tightly. I'm gluing it all together so that I'm sure the end result will please everyone: POTN old timers, Canon purists, POTN community activists, Nikon users, other brands, and all. Coding is already going on. We will need early version beta testers in couple of months time, I'll post more about that then.

P.S. Please do not ask "when", "what" or "how" - now it's "coding time", exact features will not be revealed before beta.

Wow, see how great us Canon people are, I think you should switch (back) to Canon =)

Just curious, is POTN better than any other Canon/Nikon forum out there? Why would you be interested in posting here?

This is such great news Pekka. I'm very excited to see the end result! There really is NO place like POTN.

Well, let me start by saying that I love Canon, and I do not want a Nikon. But why is there such a feud between the owners? I joke about not liking Nikon at all and bla bla, but they have made some great advances in photography too, and have helped us Canon users by trying to raise the bar and pushing canon to raise their bar.

I havent seen that many Nikon users here, but when I do I dont think there is any reason to care. I get confused by the names of their gear, so there is a lingo barrier, but other than that, I see nothing wrong with Nikon users living free here like they have.
I would be curious to find out the percentage of people using this forum that have other brands than Canon.

I like and respect Nikon users.

I like and respect Nikon users more who respect that I like Canon. ;)

For me here, it's about the community, knowledge and willingness to help others progress in photography in general. I was a canon user now I'm a Nikon user. It makes no difference to me what anyone shoots from a gear perspective, I guess that's best left to the fanboys. As stated above, there is no place like POTN as a community. I signed up for the so-called Nikon equivalents out there and believe me, they don't compare in any way at all.

That would make a great subject line!
Unfortunately, people like this are few and far between. I only hope this friendly Canon-only forum doesn't turn sour as quickly as the other "multi-brand" forums. I hope for the best, but expect the worst.

POTN is currently the best forum there is regarding photography, even if it is a Canon-only forum. Proof positive are people who shoot other brands (specifically Nikon) who use this forum for some reason. I've never had a single inkling to hang out in a forum that's specific to another brand. I also know they wouldn't be so friendly.

Good luck to everybody, especially Pekka and the mods with this.

Thanks drisley. These days, we're welcoming everyone into the forums. We only ask that the technical sections are reserved for discussion of Canon equipment.

We welcome sharing and discussion of any equipment everywhere else in the forum.
