Hi people!

In search for some constructive criticism, I hereby post a few smaller samples of some pictures I have taken this weekend. The link to somewhat larger pictures is provided each time.

Thank you for your time and criticism!

The first 3 (I think ... lost count) need some lens distortion correction.
Nice series though. I don't care for the tilt in the last ones.

Thank you, SwingBopper. I have already tried some distortion correction through DPP. I'm affraid it's the best I can do.

They're really good. I love the processing you've done to them, really enhances them. I'm not a fan of the tilted images, I'd have preferred to have seen them horizontal.

Thank you for your comments! Apparently, the tilting was not the best thing to do. Unfortunately I took the pictures tilted, so there is little I can do now. I try to look at that in the future.

Nonetheless, knowing the scene there in Gent, a straightened horizon would have induced too much unwanted elements in the picture. That is the reason for the tilted horizon in the first place. But, bearing in mind your comments, it seems I should look for other solutions than tilting the camera.

Any other comments? I'm eager to learn and improve!

You have some great shots in this collection! I can't really figure out the subject in #1, it's a little unclear but the B&W is a nice effect. I personally really enjoy #3, I love the curve that wraps around the buildings. #7 is a really interesting effect and I like the idea and composition. The tilting in the rest of them make me a little nauseous!

i love these shots. not crazy about the angle on the last one, but i really like the reflection and the calmness of the water. #4 is great. was this an HDR process? i also really like the idea of the reflection being color and the rest of it as grayscale.

Thanks! The subject in #1 is actually the absence of one. We were in the middle of nowhere, where the tram line starts. But your question shows that the picture is not empty enough.

#4 is an HDR, yes. Although I regret it a bit. I don't think I needed to use HDR to display the thick clouds while still having some detail in the shadows. Oh well ...

So the consensus of these comments is that the tilting does not work out very good. Since I never took any course on photography (besides looking at photos at this forum), this was really my biggest question. I really liked it myself and people around me - albeit not as professional as the average POTN member - like those as well. I think I will keep using it, but only if all other compositions fail (due to unwanted content). Just for aesthetics is apparently not appropriate. Thank you all for that insight and other comments!

Tilting works with images that look good tilted. And vice versa.;)

#5 & #7 pretty much blow my hair back. #6 is almost there, except it lack any sky. Again...excellent image, but I am comparing it to 5 & 7's sky. I guess I will just join the band wagon and say I "don't like the tilt"? :) It is actually fine. Photography ain't always landscape or portait!
