You linked to a site for the 2007 event.

The date however, is still correct. It will happen on the 13th.
The Link (http://stardate.org/nightsky/meteors/) that I saw, said that the moon will overpower all but the brightest of meteors. :(

Correct. The 12th is the full Moon. The 13th will be 98% illuminated but you can bet I'll still be looking up but not taking photos. Better bet this month will be the Ursid's just before dawn on the 22nd.

Thanks for the heads up, but shame about the moon...will blow out any long exposures really.

We should have a thread forewarning of such events...there are some more lunar conjunctions happening soon.

I shot with full moon before and captured some dim meteorites . It's a challenge to do so but easiest way is to stay in a shadow away from the moon and point in a direction away from the moon . I usually set up on the west side of my house til the moon gets too high then i'll move in close to the eve of the house . It will be midnight before it's at zenith and i see most meteorites between 10 & 12 midnight anyway . But the Giminids have always had some good bright meteors . I've watched them probably for the last 8 yrs. Not always the best show but had gotten better over the yrs. I know the link was for the 2007 , i only used it to make all aware but this LINK (http://www.visualastronomy.com/2008/12/geminid-meteor-shower-2008.html) tells a good story . The best show i ever seen was the Great Leonid Shower of 2001 (http://science.nasa.gov/headlines/y2001/ast08nov_1.htm) . Best i ever seen ! So i'll be out as long as i can stand the cold  !

Well unless it clears here i'm ruined til at least after midnight :( . Best time for me would be from 9pm-12midnight . Don't know if i'll get up and see it later or not . I have seen at least 3 good meteorites thurs night coming from Gimini direction so i can asure they are Giminids . Who knows it may clear after midnight and maybe i'll get up . If anyone does get any images please post them here for viewing but i won't twist your arm if you start your own thread ;)

In case anyone is interested and can't watch the meteor shower you can go to www.spaceweather.com and there is a link to listen to meteorites on a radio mechanism . I've been listening for a short while and have heard maybe a dozen or more so far . Too bad i'm clouded in at the moment :( .

Well done for your captures guys, I've hardly even seen the big moon over the last 3 or 4 nights, let alone any meteorites.

What I want to know is, the Geminids are meant to eminate from the area in Gemini, so does a meteorite coming from Orion mean it's an Orionid, or still a Geminid, but a little out of position?

I didn't shoot stars this year, but I did watch :) I saw a nice grazer around 3:30 am-ish didn't note the exact time, but I was looking up between rain showers :) it was about 33-35F with a wind chill of 28f the lawn was crunchy and the stars were super bright, even with a near full moon :P
