I am shooting a family of 8 right before Christmas. It's cold and snowy and they would prefer to be inside somewhere. Does anyone have any suggestions? In their house I don't think the picture would be special. Any and all suggestions welcome and appreciated!

I would definitely think about setting up a holiday scene inside the house. The tree on the side, the window decorations, etc. That lends itself to framing of the shot.

Also, place subjects away from the wall if you are using a flash to avoid shadows.

Best advice ever for portraits of a large family: posing so the kids are up front or in full view, adults in the back or kids hiding extra pounds. :)

If they have a nice big picture window and it is snowy outside you can pose them in front of it. Meter for the outside and then light them with bounced or modified flash.

Otherwise shoot as Suzy recommends with a tree or something.
