Question about transporting your gear...

I drive a Volvo C30 and when i travel with my kit, i keep it in the hatch area, which is usually crammed with other things and keeps my Domke bag in place and not sliding or falling over.

My question tho is, do I risk throwing my lenses out of spec from the bumps and jarring of driving over bumpy roads or expansion joints or any sort of bumps that transmit into the cabin of the car?

just wondering if I should take precautions and find another way to keep the bag of gears from being knocked about by bumps in the road...

Well as I have transported many of my pieces of equipment in either the tank bag or panniers of several motorcycles (KLR 650 & V-strom 1000) for roughly 60,000 miles in the last few years on primarily logging roads, gravel roads or trails up and down the west cost of the US and Canada and never had an issue, I don't think having it in a car with it's smoother suspension and better support will be an issue.

I'm assuming that all the equipment is in it's own little pouch and protected from bouncing against one another and lens and body caps are in place and such. If so I can't imagine that any road a C30 is going to go down is going to hurt your equipment.

Contrary to popular belief, cameras and lenses are designed to take a reasonable amount of punishment. Otherwise we would not be able to use them in real life.

So long as you use reasonable care (dont put a suitcase on top of the bag or allow things to fall on it), your equipment should give good service for years with virtually no problems.

thanks guys! this is the info I've been looking for.

i do keep each lens in it's own pouch with caps and hoods on.
I like to take care of my equipment cuz I want it to last me a long time
