Finally had some time to go through some of my older images.
These where taken last march, with my XTi.
So there had to be some noise reduction on these images.
Just noticed now that #1 is the same as my avatar, I thought it was a different one, so I posted the wrong image :(

These are beautiful. Though I wouldn't be thrilled about living in a place so far north, you do have some wonderful stuff to photograph!

There's something so magical about the Aurora. You do an outstanding job of capturing the magic. Beautiful doesn't begin to describe...

I actually enjoy living here. The best thing is very little pollution and close to the nature. But I need my yearly month somewhere hot :)

It's funny that most people like images similar to #2 & #3.
I prefer it wider with more scenic view (i.e #1) and not just the aurora.
But I take pictures of it all if the light is out.
I still have some more folders to go through :)

Yes, it is great to see it live. But sometimes it's very cold. But nothing hot coffee can fix.
Killer!

Living in Alaska I hope to one day try these...
How long are the exposures on these about, any special considerations?

Try out:
Manual:
20s, ISO 400-800 and biggest aperture (f=smallest)
Always use a cable release or times. Steady tripod
I have also done some good shots in AV-mode
Also set white balance at fluorescent, seems to bring out the colors best.
Depends on the camera you have to try out the time and ISO settings.
The higher ISO and you get mre digital noise

That's so cool! I love the first one. I also like the more landscape feel. :)
How far North do you have to be to see these?

You have to be north of the Arctic circle.
Most active Auroras is from 69 degrees north and further north in Norway
Fairbanks, AK get very good view (64 degrees)
But when it's really powerful you can see it as south as (59 degrees) Oslo, Stockholm and Helsinki. Probably further south also.
But the best is where I live ;) At least you will see it many times during one winter month.

Those are beauties! I love the second shot, it's spectacular. Need to be printed BIG and hung on a wall to be enjoyed.

I've never printed any of my work. So I have to look into it.

Where do you live? Here it only goes down to -12C and very rarely to -18C
We got the coast and the Gulf stream. But 1.5 hours away it gets down to -40C brrr.

If it's later than mid-April you will be to late. Since the nights are getting lighter by then.
It is nice just to watch the sky and sip a hot beverage (with or without something in it) :)
