Hey All,

I am looking for presents for a photographer, mainly gifts under $200. The photographer has some equipment but very little and would love to have more. Shoots with a Canon 40D, has a 430EX, and a Canon 18-55mm lens and a 70-300mm lens.

He is looking for flash/lighting equipment, would love a lens but I cant find any good lens for under $200.

Any Ideas? I would love to hear :-)

how about a nifty-fifty (canon 50mm f/1.8 ) and an umbrella/softbox ?

I know gift cards seem tacky...but a card from B&H can give the person the chance to get just the right thing.

Or at least a leg up towards some more-expensive right thing.

You know what they say, cash is always just the right size!

Ditto this, or maybe a set of good radio triggers, like the Alien Bee CyberSync's.

+1 for putting money towards a nice piece of glass.

With that 40D, a better lens than, say the 50 f/1.8, would take more advantage of that sensor.

What about the UWA end? The EF-S 10-22mm is stunning. Given a bit of patience, that would complete your friend's needs for quite a while. It's out of your price range now, but maybe soon after Christmas....?

The radio triggers are a great idea, but unfortunately he only has the 430EX and no other lighting equipment, rather not get cash or gift card... he personally does not like those as gifts.

You could put together an accessories kit, unless he has all that. Rocket blower, Promax system for the flash, etc...

Get him an off-camera light kit: a nice umbrella / octobox, a light stand, and a hot-shoe adapter --

Add a pc-cord to trip the flash and he is all set for soft and natural off-camera lighting.

Thanks, I think I might go with the last idea of the off camera light kit, or go and get a 50mm for him. These sound like the best ideas and the ones he will most enjoy.

Good luck! I'm sure he'll enjoy anything you get him.
