You will find the Eneloops excellent value as they definitely outlast any other brand I have tried.

How about Sony 2500mAh NiMh? They're doing pretty well for me. I think I read somewhere they're just re-branded eneloops.

I'm personally very happy with my eneloops, having used a set of 16 AAs to power my flash units during the past summer intensively. Previously, I had to discard most of several other NiMh brands in less than a year, including Duracell, as they failed completely; also, other batteries' shelf decay rate was too high. As a result of this good performance, I just ordered another 8 eneloops. There are brands that have a higher rated power (mAH) but I love the eneloops for not discharging much on the shelf and for being 100% reliable under heavy use (so far).

The cost of such batteries isn't too bad IF one can reliably obtain the claimed hundreds of recharge cycles.

I also bought a higher performance battery charger, and that has made a big difference, too. I now use the Maha C-9000 PowerEx - it's very flexible in terms of flexible charging programmability, battery cycling, and displaying all relevant charging parameters in detail. I also like that it tests each battery and charges each one individually, and can handle 4 at a time.

Here's a link to my preferred charger, FYI.

Just my two cents. YMMV, as is often said!
