I'm sick of editing 10.1 MP images on my 13.3" MacBook display, so I've decided to get myself an external display. I'm planning on getting an xbox in the near future, so HDMI or Component video inputs would be nice. I'm looking to spend around AU$600-800 (£250-350, US$400-500). No brand loyalties here; if it works (and the panel is matte), I'm happy.

Any suggestions?

Haven't checked prices lately, but the HP LP2475w is a great IPS display as long as it's calibrated (straight out of the box the colors were WAY too saturated). I picked one up for ~$600(US) shipped almost two months ago. Probably the best 24" display right now until you start spending over $1k for the NEC's, etc.

I've been looking at that one, and it looks like its around AU$1200, which is a lot more than I was looking to spend. If it really is streaks better than the Dell 2408WFP (http://www.dell.com/content/products/productdetails.aspx/monitor_2408wfp?c=us&l=en&s=dfo) (at AU$840), I'd consider it, but at the moment, it's not affordable.

That'd be nice, but its out of my budget, I can't stand glossy panels, and I wouldn't be able to connect game consoles to it.

If you are planning on doing any photography work with it, I would suggest a monitor with either a PVA/MVA, or better yet, a IPS. Here (http://www.pchardwarehelp.com/guides/lcd-panel-types.php)is a good read on LCD technologies.

Wow. When I purchased mine, it was about the same price as the Dell.

Just purchased an hpw2408h HDMI ...I love it ! Its 24 inches and tilts vertically for length and width .

Big story with this monitor I ordered a different monitor from Best buy and when it came into the store waiting weeks for it was the wrong one ...

I seriously complained to managers and supervisors and for the same price of a significantly cheaper monitor , I walked out the store with a 200$ plus more monitor with NO extra cost .

I was really an angry customer ! LOL and demanded an upgrade with NO extra charge and it happened .

I ended up getting a Samsung 2493HM (http://www.samsung.com/au/consumer/detail/detail.do?group=computerperipherals&type=monitor&subtype=lcdmonitor&model_cd=LS24KIEEFV/XSA) for just under AU$500 after recommendation from a technician at my local Apple reseller. I figured anything I bought was going to be better than the MacBook screen I have become used to. While it isn't as good as an ISP panel, it's still more than sufficient for my current use.

That's pretty good for Best Buy. They are notorious for giving your money back and asking you to leave.

i would say the Samsung T240 TOC (touch of color) or one of the 24 inch dells. these are great to almost the exact color. i think the dell one is more accurate
