HI guys. I know some of you have the ecperience to know this question. I found some used 600 F4.5 and 800 F4.5 Canon lenses on the web for about 11000 to 1800 depending on condition. For a long lens at that price I will work wiout auto focus, I spent the bertter part of 40 Years without it, but my concern is the mettering system.

Any information would be appreciated.

You need an EF/FD converter. Seen some being sold on eBay recently for about $50. This will allow you to use any FD mount lens on your EOS, obviously only with manual focus.

There are two common types of fd-eos adapters. There's an inexpensive one that is plentiful---lots of them on eBay. They sell typically for under $100. They will allow you to physically install the FD lens to your EOS body, but they will not allow you to focus to infinity.

There is a second adapter that was made by Canon several years ago in very small numbers. They are actually a 1.26X teleconverter, and will allow you to focus to infinity. If you can find one, expect to pay hundreds of dollars. They do show up periodically on eBay, and in fact, I just sold one through the forum's Marketplace.

Setting aperture is strictly manual, and metering in the camera will be of little use. Of course focusing will be manual as you've already observed.

First place to look for all the details is -=READ FIRST=- EOS "Sticky" Thread (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=42034). Follow the Lens Adapters link for what and why. Most of the FD to EOS adapters either don't give you focus to infinity or provide a mild TC effect and lousy image. The big bucks Canon FD-EF 1.26x is an exception.
