She just arrived.
As I took it out of the box my first thought was wow so small and light.
I'm about to charge the battery so I can play with her later.

Does anyone know if the XT has the mirror lockup function? Canon website does not cover it (it didn't either for the 20D which has it). Thanks

I have a 20D and I want one, just cause its new, lol. Seriously, I hope you have a good time and enjoy yourself and take lots of pics.
I dont think people are ready for this camera, this thing is really going to make every other company really evaluate their plans. This camera sounds like its almost a 20D at just a grand w/ kit lens. I'm so happy im an EOS owner :)

Damn!
It says my estimated delivery time is on Monday. That's so far away! Heh, does Fedex have a history of all of a sudden delivering it 2 days in advance or something like that? I can always wish... :p

Lovely pics there, they're obviously taken by a good professional who really knows their stuff. I bet they used the best Lenses money can buy, but they're a great ad for the camera.

Ughhh everyone is in love with this thing, maybe I should....not get my 20D??
Grrr. How often do you guys w/ the 20d use the 1/8k shutter? Sure it couldn't hurt to have it...

I'd imagine it'll come in useful when you want super shallow DOF in a really bright and sunny day. I know when I was shooting outside with f/1.8 the camera was telling me 1/4000 was too slow. However, moving it to f/2 made it all better. :)
All this talk with the DrebelXT makes me wanna sell my Drebel and buy the XT. The biggest thing I want is low noise performance (which I believe should be just as good as the 20D's). Also the extra 2MP is nice cos a lot of times I print big. But not so important as the sensor performance. Oh, and MLU/FEC is nice too (I'm not too excited about hacking my 300D though I will soon enough...)

Bob Atkins posted this comparison of the XT and 20D.

I'm getting that much closer to taking the plunge....damn it, there goes my retirement.

The 1/8000th isn't very helpful for me. The only time you need it is on an extremely bright day when you want a very large aperture for narrow DOF. A polarizing filter on the end of the lens on that day will give you a better picture anyway.

Oh yes. I remember downloading the sample pics of the origional digital rebel - I went out an bought one after seeing them. Of course, I was initially dissapointed with my own images, but then I discovered the L lens..

thanks for that comparison link. This guy breaks down every little thing, such as:
The EOS 20D provides full cross-type performance with maximum apertures as small as f5.6, yet it achieves up to 3 times the standard focusing precision when used with EF lenses featuring maximum apertures larger than or equal to f/2.8. The autofocus system of the Digital Rebel XT is inherited from the film Rebel XT body and has normal precision f5.6 sensors.
The EOS 20D has a pentaprism with a 0.9x viewfinder magnification, the Digital Rebel XT has a pentamirror with 0.8x magnification.
The EOS 20D has a PC terminal for use with an external flash or strobe, the Digital Rebel XT does not.
The EOS 20D has a high performance shutter designed for increased reliability (100,000 cycles), the Digital Rebel XT has the normal Canon shutter (about 50,000 cycles).
great article though.

Congrats to all whom buy a new Rebel XT camera, I know of no better feeling and the excitement of the 'wait' is like no other, until it arrives.
Enjoy and shoot, shoot, shoot.
I think this will be a wonderful addition to many a camera bag. A wonderful upgrade for many and what a nice 'first' SLR.

Thanks Mark and Andy. I am looking forward to once again using all of my EF lenses from my film days. Actually, I am in the process of selling off some to raise money for L glass. I caught the L bug pretty quick, heh?
You can all look forward to a whole slew of new photographs in this upcoming year being posted in my online portfolio. I may even try my hand at making a video/music montage like Mark did way back. Just for your info, I played that Rusted Root video once again. I love that music! Makes for great inspiration music when surfing B&H and filling up your wishlist first and then when the song crescendos, start hitting the "place in my cart" button. I think I'll need to delete that song off of my computer if I want to stay in good graces with my wife. :p

Arsonist lolol,
If your concern is the shutter speed, in terms of light only, you can get a whole stack of ND filters for around 50 bucks....will do much more then the one stop..........
Congrats on the purchases guys, I owuld love to see a head to head hands on comparison. Not a statsheet.

Hmmm...A 1D Mk II already. And you've barely had the 300D. I hope I can resist the siren call of the pro bodies for a while longer. It is difficult to do that once you've been initiated into this group. They are all evil, evil people on this forum. :p But I love them all.
It is funny...I spent about the same amount on my 4 MP Powershot G3 + goodies that I did on my 8 MP RXT + goodies...and that was only 19 months ago. Amazing. So I guess that even Moore's law is beneficial for the digital camera industry, but not in the way we thought. Instead of offering us higher pixel density, we are just getting better quality cameras and larger sensors for the same price. At the rate of progress, I can only imagine and dream of the cameras we'll be seeing in 10 or 20 years. Wow, what a great time to be alive!

Actually, the lenses they used were the less expensive ones (according to the EXIF data). Also, while the shots were obviously well done, they could be a little better. They got into a little trouble on the shot with the bride and little girl by mixing light sources. The faces are a bit yellow. Try to correct by adding blue and you get a little bit of blue in the white dress (the part of it near the bottom of the frame). Overall, a little blue does help it, and I'm being a bit picky anyway. Most people wouldn't notice. I just don't have enough to do on a Friday afternoon.

Rebel XT - in my hands...Well Almost, next week sometime.
Canoga Camera in California just got in a limited shipment of Digital Rebel xt's this afternoon, 11 March. Mine was shipped along with three lens (two F4 Ls). Selected the lens from the starter lens list in this forum Moving up from the Canon G2. Have been waiting for 18-months for the Canon 20d to go down in price and then along came xt.

I got mine today :D I got impatient with Amazon (April Delivery) and went to my local Photo Store (Neptune Photo) and picked one up. The only thing is that they only had the lens kits, they had not received the body only's yet  so I paid a little more for my impatience. I did received my 28-135 IS in the mail today, so it was perfect timing. I look forward to learning more from this forum ;)
