There have been a couple of threads recently referring to the Austin Organ Company in Hartford, CT. On Tuesday, after 112 years as a giant in the pipe organ industry, the company, beset by financial woes, closed its doors. A sad day indeed for the Austin family, it's workers, the city of Hartford and the pipe organ community around the world. :(

Can't blame you for that. it's only because the Austin Organ Co. worked its way into a thread a month or so back. Won't mean a thing if you weren't following that thread.

very sorry to hear that Jim
as must be those who are left in the family who were interested and talented enough to keep it going for all those years.
a big change in the times
(since mr Austin died things may have changed a lot with ideas in the business)http://www.photography-on-the.net/forum/images/smilies/icon_sad.gif

quote from the url

'When the Temple was sold in 2001 the new owners had no use for the organ and it had be removed. With its fate uncertain the organ caught the attention of Alicia Mazur Berg, Commissioner of the Chicago Department of Planning and Development, and Chicago's Mayor Daley. After much negotiation a deal was struck between Austin Organs Inc. and the City of Chicago. City personel under the supervision of Austin Organs Inc., have removed and packed the organ.
Now in storage, the organ awaits a new home.'

I hope it finds a worthy home and soon
thanks Jim

Apparently some church didn't pay their bill. Not enough organ donors.
