View Full Version : 5dMk2 and the G&N forum changes?

I was wondering how the sale of the 5dMk2 with its video clip mode will change the look and feel of the G&N (G&@N) forum.

Thoughts?

Will we fear the change or embrace it?

This isn't a videography site, and video is already available with dedicated video cameras. Why would we expect to see videography in the G&N forum (for photography).

Canon Camera site. Canon Cameras have video

Set up vid clips would be interesting. So would photo shoot clips of actually working with the model.

What heck I say......

There are already numerous posts where people post links to youtube links which show a short video of how a shoot went and what happened. these usually accompany posted photos from said shoot. I think that set up/shoot docus are good, but anything more would be pointless really?

It won't change anything except making me even more awesome.

Kind of what I thought. Old guard and innovators. Just like this on every forum.

I'm not sure what you're really getting at here. Do you want to post video within the forum itself? There's an infrastructure issue there in terms of storage and server demand. If you want to link to a photo hosted somewhere else, that's already available to you as Chris noted above. G&N isn't about sharing images specifically from Canon cameras, but rather about sharing G&N photographs from any camera. So the fact that the 5DMKII has video capability really doesn't matter.

man, as a mod you would think you would be a bit more on the ball? there is a sub forum already dedicated to video (and this was created not long before the 5DMKII was released).

the op has a valid question to ask: canon camera forum site with discussion of canon cameras and their functions (which now include video).

we would expect to see video in the G&N section and the talk about G&N section because we can learn from it. simple.

I'm quite aware there is a video section and its creation date. You can talk about Canon video capability in the Talk about G&N section. You can link to video as well. That does not, however, change the look and feel of the G&N forum as those capabilities are already in place.

Canon Camera site.

canon camera forum site

POTN IS subtitled "canon digital photography forums", but at Mark mentioned, the "Photo Sharing" sections aren't really brand-specific at all. There are lots of members here who don't have any Canon equipment whatsoever.

I think it will be interesting if more people post some video footage of the lighting setup, but given how rarely I see any photos or diagrams of lighting setups as it is, I really don't think that the 5D2 will revolutionize the G&N forum here.

Hosting video online is more time-consuming than hosting photos.

Canon have had digital cameras with video capability for many years. The world hasn't changed simply because they've added it to the 5D Mark II.

I suspect if it changes anything, it'll increase the number of people cruising through the forum itself looking for vids of girls wearing not much. A good half the traffic through G&N must be purely people looking for T&A on the quiet, and adding more behind the scenes video shot with the handy 5D2 that just happens to be in use for the shoot too won't help that. :?

Other than that though, multimedia and it's linkability on the forums hasn't changed at all surely?

eesh, a bit jaded on society as a whole, but probably true
