Why Zooms? I use 50mm f1.4 and 85mm f1.8 and my feet :D

Prime quality is better then Zoom but Zoom is more versitile. In the studio where you have all the controle I really suggest that you look at prime lenses.

I want to buy a good lens for my Canon Rebel (yes, film. XT will be coming soon) for portrits. Is the Sigma 28-70 EX 2.8 a good choise? Why the Canon equivalent is almost 3 times more expensive?
Any other suggestions?

Thanks

It's more expensive, because it's better. The best portrait lenses usually have an aparture of 1.4-2.8 and are in the 85 -135 mm range on film.
