My first moon shot...

Full moon here tonight. First try ever at shooting the moon. What do you think? Any suggestions?

Looks good. I once shot the moon with my nikon D50 and it's tough. Good job indeed.

I shot this moon 3 years ago... it looks like it's been evolving or revolving :D

Looks pretty good to me. Took some full moon shots myself this evening, but I often find that shooting when the moon is less than full adds some interesting shadows and details along the terminator.

For your first moon shot you did good ! A little soft on focus but brightness and detail are very good . I think you chose the right settings .

I'm terrible at manual focus. Through the viewfinder it looks good to me, but then later on when I get to the pc it ends up not being in focus. And tips on focusing better?

Looks very good, a bit soft which could be focus, it could be the 2X TC or a little of both.

Be sure your camera viewfinder dioptric dial is set for your eyes and night viewing(infinity) before you start to manually focus. You can also use the camera's auto focus to lock it in and then switch the AF off and go manual and use the camera delay or a shutter release.

The 300D doesn't have LiveView like the newer cameras :( so like Steve says make sure the viewfinder is set correctly and when i take a new shot i zoom in as much as possible and check the crator edges to see if focus is good or bad . Even then i will tweak the focus knob on my scope to see if i can get a better focus but even then til i download to my computer i can't tell perfect focus :( so take lots of images and refocus each shot .

Thanks for tips guys. I've actually never adjusted the dioptric dial. Guess that's another thing I have to work on!

I also have a 50d coming today so hopefully I can play with the LiveView to help out on the focus.

Also, when using the 2x TC with the 100-400 the AF doesn't work. Trust me, I tried that approach
