As some of you may or may not remember, a while back I asked in the EOS forum for tips/suggestions about a photo shoot I was asked to help out with for a campus magazine.

After delays due to the weather, this past weekend we finally had the shoot, and I think some of my pictures turned out pretty decently, considering this was my first time doing anything like this. I shot with my 20D, and almost entirely with my 50mm f/1.8 since it's the sharpest lens I have at the moment.

I shot RAW and converted all to JPG with no further editing (since this is how they wanted the photos turned in) and gave those to my friend (the one that asked me to help) and she gave those to the editor. I don't know yet which of my shots will be put in the magazine, but they're going to give me a copy of it once it's put out next month, so that'll be cool.
Also, the magazine is a fashion magazine, so the girls were dressed in not-so-everyday clothing, and was meant to capture them having fun out and about in the Spring time (granted, it's not quite Spring yet:lol:)

Anyway, enough of the narrative.... I did a bit of post processing, editing and cropping to a few of them and wanted to know what you guys thought. I'd like any and all comments and critiques, if you don't mind :)

The first one looks most natural, and the third (particularly) and fourth most posed. Nice work al around though, they all look good.

They all look good a part from the third which just looks too false for me.

thanks for the comments. yeah, I wasn't too fond of some of the "posing" of the girls, rather than just acting normal. The three girls in the doorway especially were bad about pausing every so often and striking a pose rather than continuing to walk normal.
As for the 4th one, I guess I do agree that does look kinda posed, although it wasn't. I have a few others that look more natural, but this being one of the sharper ones, I decided to edit that.

Also just to throw out there, I'm sure you assumed it, but the last (5th) one is meant to be posed, since they're representing a member of each class (freshman, sophomore, junior, senior).

It may just be me, I think your shots could use ome more lighting from the front. Like from a reflector or something. I guess the showdows darkening all of the faces bothers me. Otherwise I think they look great.

That is what I thought as well.

This looks like photos from that mythical campus that we always see in the advertisements for a college.

I like the 2nd one the best.

Yeah........the shadow bothers me a bit.............a reflector would've helped.....or maybe shooting in the shade.

This is UNC Chapel Hill, in case you're wondering which this is in particular. And I think that's pretty much the "look" they wanted for the article in the magazine, so I'm hoping it fits the bill.

And I do agree about the shadows on the faces, I wish now I had used an external flash with a difuser or something to minimize them... unfortunately we were only given about an hour and a half to shoot, and this was right before our big basketball game against our biggest rival (Duke) so the people were in a rush to get things done... so I didn't get a good chance to take a few samples, review them, and make decisions accordingly.
