I already know that I can make improvements with longer subs and more of them, but as the scope wasn't polar aligned I limited myself to half a dozen or so at 10 seconds each.

Even with these limitations, I'm quite pleased with the result for my first attempt at a DSO, and it only encourages me to try again to improve.

For your first DSO you did an excellent job ! My first of M42 , 7 yrs ago was terrible with bad streaks and trailing :( . When you get that alignment better then NightHound better watch out !! I'm also really proud to see you challenge something else besides the moon ! Your on your way to great images !

Good stuff, considering you only took 10s subs. My best so far has been with 30s subs, but I want to give it some good 60s to 120s goes soon, once I brave the cold again. I also want to get that nice red/blue mix that you captured...my processing seemed to lose all the red.

That's a great start - it's always amazing what you can pull out of M42 with even short exposures. You've even got a little of the running man. Keep it up!

Nothing to laugh at here, you did great. Very nice color and detail.

Wow! Really nice. What was your ISO?

That is my next target I want to try.

ISO used was 1600. Thought I'd give myself a fighting chance with as much sensitivity as possible.

Thanks Monty.

I'm just waiting for some more clear skies so I can have another go. I can see this getting quite addictive.
