The moon was 99% Full tonight and was at Perigee making it the Largest Moon of the Year so attached the Rebel 300D to the Stellarvue AT1010 , 80mm (480mm/fl) , f/6 , mounted on a tripod shot 27 images . Out of 27 this image was the best and most crisp in sharpness . This is a single image , ISO 100 , 1/400th-sec , manual mode . PP in PS7 , slight custom sharping , cropped @ 100% . Check out my moon on my website . I have one posted from 06' i took which the moon was much smaller being farther away from earth but not sure it was at Apogee at the time . However at APOD (http://antwrp.gsfc.nasa.gov/apod/ap071025.html) they have an image comparing Perigee and Apogee that pretty much compares the same as my two moons . Cs'&Cs' welcome .

I looked at the APOD one you linked to, and just now checked the one on your site - the difference is amazing. We had too many clouds last night to bring out the scopes, but in between the clouds it seemed much brighter and bigger - plus when it was lower, the moon illlusion seemed exacerbated.

David , thanks for the comments ! How would you layer it ? If you want a copy just right click and save it to your desktop .

as a background image with perhaps with a picture of a wolf in the foreground as a fore instance. I was hoping for a full size tiff rather then the jpg if you could btw this would be for personal rather then any professional or business use . David

Perigee is the point in an object's orbit where it and the object it is orbiting are closest, apogee is the point where the two objects are farthest apart.

David

Awesome!!!! I love the detail you can see on the surface at the lower right corner.

Would a copy of this be available for purchase? I have a 15 yo son interested in astronomy and was thinking about getting a large size print of the moon to frame for his bedroom wall. This is by far one of the most spectacular shots I have seen.

LOL, after reading your post I remembered helping my son study that in science last year...lol...I wonder if he forgot as quickly as I did...

thank you

Well, I was just looking at this again, and realized that I munged the definition - perigee and apogee are for objects orbiting the *Earth.* Periapsis or apoapsis are the corresponding terms for generic objects. Whoops. :) David

Hi Ron,
Great shot. Maybe I can try that some day...lots to learn. I put a picture up today on the bird forum..."Bird On A Wire".

Again, this is a great picture. Have you thought about framing for your home?
