Hi,

I am new to Color Management and I'm trying to understand how it works by reading here and there.
I also downloaded the Canon Color Profile guide in pdf from this forum, excellent.

However, I have some questions for you:

1) The color profiles of my i865 are:

CNB5MCA0
CNB5MCB0
CNB5MDB0
CNB5MEB0
CNB5MED0
CNBJPRN2 (default)

Does anybody know to which paper grade do they correspond?

2) The Color Management function is set to Automatic, otherwise I can choose Manual, but, how do I turn it off?

3) I print CDs/DVDs, any particular profile I could use if necessary?

Thank you for your help!

Alex

You can e-mail Canon’s tech support and they will tell you which profiles correspond to their various paper grades. If you have Qimage, use it to browse for these profiles – it gives the file name and a short description that contains the code for their papers which is given in the Canon .pdf. The “CNBJPRN2” does almost no color transformation – it is more or less a “pass-through” profile that the driver uses for anything other than a Canon Photo Paper – it might work for your CDs.

On my i9900 you turn off all color management in the driver by “Preferences/Color Adjustment/Manual/Set…” Disable ICM and set “Print Type” to “None”. If you set “Print Type” to “Photo”, the driver will choose a profile based on the paper and quality settings. If you enable ICM, the driver will still choose a profile based on the paper and quality settings if the “Properties/Color Management” is set to “Auto; setting the “Color Management” to “Manual” with ICM enabled tells the driver to use the default profile specified in “Color Management”. Hopefully your printer works the same way.

Hi,

CNB5MCA0
CNB5MCB0
CNB5MDB0
CNB5MEB0
CNB5MED0
CNBJPRN2 (default)

Find the associated .ICM or .ICC profiles on your computer and look at the properties. On my Win XP system, I get the following for i950/i960 profiles which are similar:

CNB5CCA0.ICM = PR1
CNB5CCB0.ICM = PR2
CNB5CDA0.ICM = MP1
CNB5CEA0.ICM = SP1

where:

PR1 = Photo Paper Pro (print quality level 1)
PR2 = Photo Paper Pro (quality level 2)
MP1 = Matte Photo Paper (quality level 1)
SP1 = Photo Paper Plus Glossy (quality level 1)

These profiles should show up in Photoshop under View>Proof Setup>Custom as "Canon i860 PR1" or something like that. They can be used for proofing and printing as outlined in the Canon media specific profile instructions document.

Also -
CNBJPRN2.ICM = BJ Color Printer Profile 2000

This is the basic printer profile used by the Canon printer driver. It should be associated with your i860 printer. Find the printer in "Printers and Faxes" or equivalent control panel and check the color management tab to see if this profile is set for your printer.

2) The Color Management function is set to Automatic, otherwise I can choose Manual, but, how do I turn it off?
After selecting set manual, select "none" from the "Print Type" drop down menu to disable printer color management.

3) I print CDs/DVDs, any particular profile I could use if necessary?
Don't know what you mean.

With my question no. 3 I meant that I use white printable CDs or DVDs, all the profiles we have just talked about are for paper grades, just wondering if there is any specific profile for printable media.

Hope this is now clearer.

Thank you!
