Ok, went out again tonight and gave it another try. What do you think? Any suggestions for next time?

nice shot.. I took one sort of similiar but with a 70-200 lens tonight.. I don't know how to post a pics but its in my flickr account.. mines too blurry though :(.. I guess you really need to have a tripod .. either that or I just don't know how to take shots of the moon lol..

Hey, I'm not that great at it myself either. I did have a tripod and I'm still not getting the results I was looking for. That's why I'm looking for any tips from anyone....

hmm try iso 100, 1/125-1/160, F8 and use mirror lockup.. see if that helps at all?.. also if you're using a tripod do you have a remote?.. it would help in preventing movement..

I havn't really tried any of this myself .. just what I've read on this forum.. maybe it will work for you :)

Just one thought. I am not a pro at this, but the only way I can get a decent focus on the moon is to focus manually, back the focus off one notch back from infinity and make sure to use the center focus with it pointed 1/2 at the moon and 1/2 at the black sky behind.

The focusing system requires contrast to work and I found it will not work worth a flip if I put the focusing point directly on the center of the moon.

Others will have much better suggestions than mine, but what I suggested above works for me using an S5.

Thanks Celestron. But no, this is straight out of the camera and uploaded to flicker. I can crop it and do the same if that helps.

Much better in size and looks good ! Try a little custom sharpening and see if that brings out the crators better . Try 1 on each side of the setting .
